Workshop types
Our workshops cater to the needs of learners of all levels: the complete novice to lacquerware arts looking to engage in a full-day hands-on experience as well as professional urushi artists and experienced restorers who want to refine their skills in restoring exhibition pieces owned by fine arts museums including those considered national treasures.
Examples:
・1-day workshop: kintsugi, ceramics painting, crafting chopsticks, etc.
・Hobby artists: workshop designed for those who would like to engage in the lacquerware arts for their own enjoyment
(manufacturing and repairing their own lacquerware, incl. instructions on kintsugi)
・Advanced practitioners: fundamentals for those looking to become professional lacquerware craftsmen and -women
(incl. kintsugi for professionals)
・Master class: for professional artists and restorers who seek to hone their skills of repairing artworks for museums or auction houses
We also offer refresher and upskilling classes for advanced practitioners and professional urushi artists.
Lectures and presentations
‘What is urushi?’, ‘The history of urushi’, ‘Urushi’s perception around the world’, ‘The value of urushi’
We also offer lectures and presentations on topics such as the settings in which urushi is encountered throughout the world, writing invoices to international customers, legal requirements for payment receipts, shipping methods, etc. We will also be happy to give a lecture or presentation a topic you are especially interested in.
Fees
・1-day practical workshop: manufacturing chopsticks etc. from precious woods (from JPY 8,000 including materials)
・Lectures and presentations per session of 1.5 hours: JPY 5,000
・All other practical workshops per session of 3 hours: JPY 5,000 (please purchase a set of ten tickets for JPY 50,000 in advance).

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays: 9:00-12:00, 14:00-17:00.
Please choose a workshop or class and make reservations for it no later than one day before it takes place.
You will be taught individually, so starting is possible any time.

We offer 3 makie brush types manufactured by Murata Kurobe for different purposes.
You will start by making your spatulas from the wooden board and kneading bengara urushi for makie as well as bengara and keshishuai.
Participants of kintsugi classes will also need gold and silver marufun (round powder).
Prices are subject to fluctuation, but the minimum price for gold powder is about JPY 6,500 per 0.5g, for silver powder JPY 850 per 1g.
